He actively ensured that the volunteers felt able to learn and was completely selfless in all of his endeavours.

He was highly respected by all that knew him, as well as being full of good humour. Stuart was a confidante, a father figure, a calming influence and a figure of stability where no person felt unsafe going to sea under his command. In 2000, 22 years after joining as a volunteer, Stuart became full time Coxswain of Dungeness Lifeboat, where he dedicated his life fully to the role. He was a keen fisherman from a young age and started commercial fishing as a full-time occupation after school, which is where he was introduced to the RNLI. Stuart initially joined the RNLI as a volunteer in 1978 alongside his fellow fishermen in Dungeness. He guided the volunteers through huge changes throughout his years at the charity, where he lived and breathed ‘Saving Lives at Sea’. Most of the videos I've seen regarding stop and go retrieve have involved a casting reel.Stuart was the backbone of the RNLI station at Dungeness, providing leadership and true friendship to all the volunteers that worked with him. There's no reason to limit yourself to short distance rods, however in areas such as Michigan and Alaska where long casts aren't required for most species, casting gear is popular perhaps due to the retrieve ratio. For these reasons, if I had to choose one, I would choose the spinning reel.

Now, with the larger spinning gear, the heaviest line you can get will work on those as well since there's nothing heavier that exceeds the best spinning reel drag. Casting reels can be used on casting rods, which cannot be used for bottom fishing or float fishing, only casting lures a relatively short distance.
